Why shoes matter

Across Indiana, youth in under-resourced communities are wearing old shoes that limit their ability to thrive. Worn-out, poor-fitting, and unsafe footwear means kids can't fully participate in sports, extracurriculars, or even school.

The ability to move in safe, well-fitting shoes is paramount to building a child's confidence and well-being. That's where New Shoe Day comes in — by partnering with local youth organizations, we elevate a child's experience with a memorable, exciting, and empowering moment: their very own "New Shoe Day."

There's a mental health crisis in Indiana, and it's getting worse. New Shoe Day partners with organizations in their efforts to fight it — particularly among the populations most at-risk for adverse health outcomes.

With funding and resources, we bolster existing community programs, help create new ones, and empower those we serve with the positive boost of a new pair of shoes.

Who We Serve

Ending shoe insecurity, statewide

New Shoe Day is committed to ending shoe insecurity across Indiana. To fulfill that mission, we work with community partners of all types — from schools and afterschool programs to shelters and other organizations serving Indiana youth.

Shoe insecurity means going without clean, safe, well-fitting footwear — something we believe is an essential need. Through our growing network of Shoe Banks, we help partners keep a stock of new shoes in varying sizes on hand, so they can meet a child's need the moment it arises.
